Fitness Breakthrough That Creates a Whole New Genre of Gaming

At first glance, the Wii Fit looks like another video gaming gimic like the Nintendo PowerPad or the Zapper. Who would have thought that a video game with a white plastic step would have such an impact not only on the video game industry, but in the fitness world. Nintendo has accomplished something that has indeed revolutonized how we look at the world of video gaming by taking gamers off of their couches, and making them sweat.

When I first heard about the Nintendo Wii Fit, I had no interest in buying into another gimick. But after seeng my friend using his, I decided it was worth giving a shot. Not to mention, that it flew off of shelves when it hit the stores. Not long after I purchased the Wii Fit, I learned that a little motivation (an animated guy or girl in workout clothes telling me that I’m doing great), and a few enjoyable ways to do difficult exercises, I was able to actually wake up each day and work out ‒ the best part was that I was able to enjoy it.

I can honestly say that the Wii Fit is a bonified fitness product that works. Yeah, ok, it wont replace your treadmill or weight set. But that's just the angle Nintendo was going for with this product. The problem with fitness programs today is that actually getting on the teeadmill, or picking up some weights lacks a vital component of good fitness... motivation. The Wii Fit is flat-out fun. I find myself getting excited to work-out in the morning because a Wii FIt workout is something more that just getting on a treadmill, and that's why it's such a successful product. It may not make you the next Mr. Universe or Ms. America, but it sure works well at getting cronic couch-potatoes motivated to put on a swimsuit in the summer. If it's used correctly, I can tell you from experience that you will lose weight and get in shape with this product.

As for the game itself, the Wii Fit system consists of 2 parts, the balance board and the Wii Fit software, and is remarkable for a number of reasons. First, the bottom line, it’s not a gimmick. The Nintendo Wii Fit is a proven successful way to lose weight and get in shape. I don't know how many people you know can say they've truly, honestly lost weight while playing a video game, but this thing works. What's more, it's fun. It would have been easy to make Wii Fit a boring, relatively useless means of getting yourself into shape, much like every other program out there, but Nintendo managed to infuse a bit of fun into getting fit. This helps to ensure that you're constantly competing and constantly trying to outdo yourself. You don't get that with other exercise programs, at least not in the way that you need to feel motivated.

After you’ve started up the Wii Fit game, and have your Balance Board in place, the next step in using the Wii Fit is creating your profile. The Wii Fit will first ask you get started by choosing the Mii for your main account and by answering a series of questions. If you are not fond of the little mascot ‒ an animated Balance Board ‒ asking you questions and telling you fitness tips, you'll have to bear with it for a bit. Once you complete initial setup, this stuff is entirely optional whenever you turn it on in the future. I personally recommend you take the time to read and pay attention to the tips the system gives you. The Wii Fit was designed with the beginner in mind, so the game will pretty much teach you what you need to know to get going.

After starting up, you will then take a balance test were the game will measure your weight and how well balanced you are. From this data, the game will give you your BMI and Wii Fit Age. The Wii Fit Age is a number which basically encompases how well fit your are. The lower the age, the better in shape you are. So don't get alarmed if you start out at 45 when you are really 24 years old. Just meas that you have some work to do.

After this, you have the opportunity to set some personal goals for youself such as a target weight. The game will track over time how well you've progressed and motivate you into reaching your goal. Things like this are really what sets it apart from other exercise programs. Again, this game wasn't created with the fitness guru in mind. It was created to get those of us who hardly ever think about fintess to start taking conrol of our health, and it does an excellent job at that.

In a few weeks after purchasing with the Wii Fit, I had already lost nearly 15 pounds. It wasn’t long after that I found myself in the best shape of my life since I was in high school. Bottom line is, if you're someone who is looking for that extra motivation to start getting in shape, you'll love the Wii Fit. After using is properly, you'll be more than satisfied, and you'll look at the Wii Fit as more than just a video game.

I don't have problems motivating myself to exercise, but variety is essential to keep yourself engaged in the process and striving for continual improvement. This is an excellent way to do just that - the exercises are fun, the graphics are engaging (albeit rather low-rent looking and oftentimes too "cutsy" for my taste) and the routines are effective. I've been very happy to have added this to my work out routine.

I was skeptical that a video game could ever lead to exercise, but my wife wanted this game so I got it. Sure enough, I lost 20 pounds using it. It's definitely a fun and entertaining way for people like me who get bored in a gym. I particularly like how it has a series of games that you can beat, which makes it seem as if your exercise regimen has a larger goal - to get the highest score.     Most of the exercises are aerobic, with some limited strength training. My wife and I are in our *early* 30's and we have found that the Wii Fit is the game that we use the most on or Wii. I have delayed writing this review by about 2 months to make sure that we continued our use - and I am happy to report that we are still enjoying using it on regular basis.      One thing to note is that the Wii fit alone will not turn you into lean-mean-fitness-machine but it can be a helpful part of the process. Many of the games are marginal in calorie burning …

I hate exercising. I have never enjoyed spending an hour of my day sweating. Just never was fun to me. I greatly admire those who enjoy it, but for me, I have about 100 different things I'd rather be doing, and cleaning my bathroom is one of them. So needless to say, I like things that will encourage me to actually workout without reminding me of the 100 other things I could be accomplishing.    I can't comment on the long term use of Wii fit, though the prospect does look good. …

Wii Fit is a video game developed by Nintendo for the Wii console. It is an exercise game consisting of activities utilizing the Wii Balance Board peripheral.

The Wii Fit package includes a Wii Balance Board and a Wii Fit game disk for the Wii console containing 48 fitness training-related games and activities. The Wii Balance Board is a wireless peripheral for the Wii console and communicates with the console in the same manner as the Wii Remote. The sensors on the board can measure players up to 150KG (330lbs) in mass. The balance board measures a user's mass and center of balance. The software can then calculate the user's body mass index when told of his or her height.

Wii Fit was released in Japan on December 1, 2007, and in other regions in April-May 2008. As of December 2008, Wii Fit is the Wii's third best-selling game, with 14 million copies sold. At a retail price of $89.99 USD (and equivalent in other regions), Wii Fit has generated over $1.26 billion in revenue for Nintendo.
