Alright, so my review might be a little biased, I am warning you - because the owner of the shoe repair service is my father! I'll try to set aside that fact.

This is both a local shoe repair service located in Beverly, Massachusetts AND an online shoe repair service. He has been operating locally for 13 years and for over two years online. You can send him your run down shoes by mail from anywhere in the world (easy instructions online) and get them back looking like new in 10 days. He also does repairs for leather goods like purses and coats. Instead of adding more to the landfills, make a greener choice and get your comfy worn in shoes fixed.

I think this is great for any expensive shoes you have that were an investment and you have grown to love them, they mold to your foot perfectly now and you can't afford a new pair, you would not want to part with the old one anyway. Of course this is not for shoes from Payless, you'll be better off buying a new pair. Also great for specialty shoes like dance shoes, work boots, fireman's boots, hiking boots, and policeman shoes. How about fixing the heel on that cute pair of stylish pumps?

I am really gladly you didn't let your bias stop you from reviewing! Real shoe repair folk in the USA are priceless. I have a pair of favorite elf shoes I had worn to a wafer on the sole and, in a stroke of great good fortune I happened upon a little old shoe repairer in a NYC neighborhood {sorry; can't tell you where because I walked a 1000 streets that day!}. When that dear old shoemaker handed me back my beloved shoes with a total new lease of life, it felt like the stuff the fairy-tales are made of. May these salt-of-the-earth skills be always alive in our communities!

Thanks Corrina! Yes, it is almost a dying art. In this disposable culture people are more likely to throw out their shoes and just buy a new pair. Good to hear you found one near you. My dad's business is not doing so great right now, really slow. I hope it picks up in the near future!

Here is what the owner has to say on the website:

"My experience in shoe business goes back 30 years. I started to make new men's and women's shoes and boots in 1975 in Latvia (former USSR) by opening my own individual order shop. It became popular very quickly, and the waiting list was a yearlong. When Perestroika started in 1988, I opened the first private shop in Riga (Latvia) specializing in the shoe resole. Although we did not have very sophisticated machinery as in USA, our methods were extremely effective. Most of the work was done by hand.

When I came to the USA in 1995, first thing I did - was studying the American technique in the shoe resole for six months and gaining the new experience. In 1995, I opened my own "Cabot Resole Co." shop in Beverly, MA"
