JapanSoc - Community Website For Sharing News And Views About Japan

  • Apr 6, 2009

JapanSoc.com was set up to encourage people who write about Japan or who have good sources for information about Japan to come together and pool their knowledge.
If you are looking for up to the minute headlines, both fun and serious, this is a great starting point. It's also an easy way to connect with people writing about Japan as most members have an interest one way or another. A little like Digg, if you like a story that has been submitted then you can Soc it which then pushes the story up the rankings. The better the story, the more Socs it gets!

Besides the ability to submit stories there is also a forum for anything and everything on Japan so if you have a question you can get your answer here, or if you have specialist knowledge of an area or cultural aspect you can build your credentials as someone who knows their stuff.

Once a month there is the blog 'Matsuri' which is always a lot of fun and produces some great tales. In Japanese, matsuri means festival. The blog matsuri always has a theme and Japan bloggers then submit their entry for that month's theme. The host of the matsuri then posts the complete selection at the end each month's submission deadline.

I hope you like it : )

Cool, thanks for sharing! I'm a casual Japanese culture enthusiast, which mostly means I make a lot of trips to Ichiban Kan. ;)

About this website

JapanSoc.com is a social bookmarking website for Japan-related blogs and news. The site was created as a community building tool, bringing people with an interest in Japan together, and giving them a forum to introduce, vote on and discuss articles with a Japan theme.

JapanSoc was founded by Nick Ramsay and officially launched on November 11th 2007 with the article, JapanSoc Brings Social Bookmarking to Japan, which introduced the site and explained how its development was inspired by other social bookmarking websites and the Pligg content management system. In August 2008, JapanSoc was moved from Pligg to Social Web CMS, an open source social bookmarking platform for which Nick is now a key developer.

In March 2009, Nick was joined by web developer and Japan enthusiast Chris Gaunt, and together they revamped JapanSoc with a new look and many new features. This, combined with the growth of JapanSoc.org led to greater exposure and increased interest in the site.
