is a social bookmarking website for Japan-related blogs and news. The site was created as a community building tool, bringing people with an interest in Japan together, and giving them a forum to introduce, vote on and discuss articles with a Japan theme.History
JapanSoc was founded by Nick Ramsay
and officially launched on November 11th 2007 with the article, JapanSoc Brings Social Bookmarking to Japan
, which introduced the site and explained how its development was inspired by other social bookmarking websites and the Pligg
content management system. In August 2008, JapanSoc was moved from Pligg to Social Web CMS
, an open source social bookmarking platform for which Nick is now a key developer.
In March 2009, Nick was joined by web developer and Japan enthusiast Chris Gaunt, and together they revamped JapanSoc with a new look and many new features. This, combined with the growth of JapanSoc.org led to greater exposure and increased interest in the site.
