I barely want to tell you my fashion secret- you'll buy everything before I can!

I'm not really a shopaholic. I love clothes - especially designer clothes - but since I know they're entirely out of my price range, I never bother to get myself caught up in that world.

However, like most pseudo-fashionistas, I LOVE SALES. Recently a friend of mine told me she got a Marc Jacobs ring for $35 on Rue La La.com, an invitation-only sites. I've never been a part of an invitation-only shopping site, so I figured I had nothing to lose by trying it out.

I entered my email address to be put on a waiting list and it only took about 1-2 weeks to get confirmed as a member. Not sure if this is faster when an actual member sends you an invite, but hey, 1-2 weeks is fine with me!

After you sign up, emails are sent out several times a week to announce the opening of "boutiques"- small online storefronts open for only 48 hours or so. Boutiques open at 11 AM EST and contain limited quantities of items, so make sure you act fast! All the good stuff WILL disappear before your eyes!

So far, I have only purchased one item from Rue La La - Betsey Johnson sunglasses:

I believe these sunglasses retail around $60-75, and I got them for $40, with $8 or so for shopping. Close to half off! Amazing!

Although the sunglasses have been my only purchase, I check the boutiques almost every day. They have it all: clothing (for men and women), shoes, accessories, and even housewares! I've seen boutiques from names like Laundry by Shelli Segal, Michael Kors, Just Cavalli (Roberto Cavalli), Calvin Klein Home, Le Creuset, and more. It's always something fresh and surprising, which I love.

I only have two sort-of complaints:

1. you can't return the merchandise for a refund, only a store credit. This is bummer if something doesn't fit, BUT this is a general hurdle to face when shopping online. Plus...they provide highly-discounted designer stuff and there isn't much room for resale. I can understand and sympathize.

2. IT'S TOO GOOD! I need a fatter bank account! Even though everything is discounted tremendously, I'm still too broke and usually end up closing my internet browser in shame. Recently, there was another Marc Jacobs sale, and I almost cried because I wanted a pair of shoes so badly. Even discounted to $199, I couldn't justify spending the money. Sigh. Such is life!

Here is a screen shot from the official Rue La La site:

This is a shot from the Just Cavalli boutique. It's a bit hard to see, but its shows the product for sale with the original retail price totally slashed out. The first dress was originally $515 - now $149! The second was $775 - $249 now! The third to the right was original a whopping $850 - now a measly $279. Yay! Who doesn't love sales?

Check it out if you love fashion, or if you just love sales, but get ready to get addicted.

FYI. Prices are good if you can afford them. But when returning an item you only receive a credit and that credit is very slow in getting to your account. Once they receive your returned item it is another 3- 5 business days. You can not use this credit on any new purchases unless you have it in you account at the time you purchase a new item. I did not know that so I purchased two items before my account was credited and therefore I have to spend more money to purchase something else at another day to use my credit. Maybe I missed something when I read the returns rule. Now I will be more cautious when spending my hard earned money!

Good to know! I've always wondering this about them. It does seem like the nature of the store does not lend itself well to returns..but that is really terrible because its such a gamble to buy a pair of jeans (for example) from the internet and have them fit properly. UGH!

I love Rue La La!  I look forward to their emails every morning.  I'm never fast enough to get their deals though.  I'm still kicking myself for missing out on their Chanel sale!  I was invited to join the site by a fellow Luncher and got an invitation right away, so a direct invite is faster than waitlisting.  Another sample sale site that I'm a member of is HauteLook.  You should check them out.

By the way, those sunglasses are way cool.  They remind me of Rayban Wayfarers, only Betsey Johnson-fied!

They're having a Salvatorre Ferragamo sale! And I never noticed that about the models... I'm too busy looking at the clothes ;P
