I first came across WordPress while I was looking for a place to make a free/ cheap website for my company,
International Baseball Connect. Not knowing much about building websites, hosting, or driving traffic, I was referred to WordPress from a close friend. From the beginning WordPress was great! Easy to use, clean, and made sense.
One thing that really popped out to me was the countless amounts of themes out there for not only running a blog but for a a professional website as well. Most people use WordPress for a blog, but I was using it for a company website that was our main “store front” for our clients. There was a ton of specific items and widgets that we needed on the website and WordPress was able to pull through.
We eventually moved away from the free service of WordPress to a smaller premium package in order to have our own URL, emails and various other perk. Although it cost our company a little bit of money, because we are with WordPress, and from talking to others who have different online companies running their company website for them, I could tell we were saving lots of money.
There are some things with WordPress that have upset us. There is the occasional down time which typically happens late at night when most people in the US are asleep, but because we run an international company, people and clients are heading to our site at time when most Americans are asleep. One other thing is I wish the user interface was a little bit cleaners and easier to use. These are things that we are able to look past though because of everything else that is great about WordPress.
Overall I would highly recommend new companies and young entrepreneurs to use WordPress as a means to starting an online business. I’ve done it and have actually been able to use WordPress to make my business a successful.
