Babcock Was the FIrst Wine Club I Ever Joined

I joined the Babcock Winery wine club, which is about the highest compliment I can give a winery. I have since cancelled, but that's only because I wanted to leave room in my budget and my wine rack for some new flavors.

Winemaker Brian Babcock does good work. I liked that when I tasted through the flight, I was impressed by almost every wine.

What really put me over the edge three years ago was tasting the Ocean's Ghost Pinot Noir. Here's a three-word review for that wine: Yum. Yum. Yum. It's delicious, but be ready to spend between $40 and $50. The Deja Vu Pinot Noir is a close second.

I'm also in love with the Fathom blend. The 2008 Fathom will be released in April!

Two years ago, or so, he started a lower priced line called Under the Radar. It's a nice option for lower budgets.

The tasting room is very casual and small. It's half indoors and half outdoors. It's adjacent to the winery, so it has a slightly industrial, but still cozy, vibe.

The service has been fantastic every time. The pourers know their stuff, and they're friendly.

I love outdoor tasting rooms!  Must be gorgeous overlooking the vineyard.  I love the names of the wines, too.  Thanks for sharing! :)

About this wine

One of California's brightest stars in the field of winemaking is Bryan Babcock. Not only was Bryan selected by the Los Angeles Times as one of the "Ten Best Winemakers of the Year", he was also named by this influential daily as "Most Courageous Winemaker of the Year" for his daring style. Since 1984 Bryan has been producing wines of exceptional quality from his family owned winery located on the far western edge of the Santa Ynez Valley in northern Santa Barbara County.

The prestigious James Beard Foundation chose Bryan as one of the "Top Ten Small Production Winemakers in the World," the only American chosen for this oenological dream team. In choosing Bryan for this award, David Moore wrote, "Bryan Babcock best exemplifies the traits I look for in a great winemaker. The quality of Bryan's wines speak for themselves, yet it is his personal commitment to excellence that stands out so much. His relentless experimentation, his willingness to explore the possibilities with so many grape varieties, and his aesthetic are a world apart from the usual American approach to winemaking."

Integrity and quality are paramount to the wines of Babcock Winery and Vineyards. Because of Bryan's exceptionally high standards, no matter the varietal or vintage, Babcock wines are always among the elite.

Babcock wines feature cool climate, estate-grown fruit as well as grapes from select local vineyards. Highly intellectual and flavorful, each wine ...
