Champagne taste on a beer budget?

Spanish Cava is a great alternative to Champagne or even California Sparkling Wine, and in most cases offers a great value.  Codorniu made from Pinot Noir is one of my favorite Cava's and retails for around $19 a bottle.  This is an incredibly versatile wine that can be enjoyed as an aperitif, paired with an entree or served with dessert.

I love bubbles in general so that first little blast on the tongue alerts my taste buds that something good is about to come.  This wine is crisp and balanced with aromas of strawberries and cherries.  The wine taste of raspberries and currants and finishes very clean.

The fantastic package that this wine comes in is an added bonus.  Almost like it was bottled just for Valentines Day the Rose color Pinot Noir Cava is brilliant in the thick clear bottle with a very classy label and capsule.

Cava is becoming more widely available and can be found at most stores, wine shops and even at Trader Joe's.

Wow, I'll need to pick this up the next time I'm at Trader Joe's!  I love sparkling wine and the notes that you highlighted about the taste sounds fantastic, not to mention that the color's gorgeous.  Thanks for the tip, Shayne! :)

COUNTRY: SPAIN
VINEYARD REGION: D.O. CAVA
NAME: CODORNÍU PINOT NOIR BRUT

COMPOSITION:
100 % Pinot Noir

VITICULTURE:
Codorníu Cavas are only made from grapes coming from our own vineyards or long-term suppliers with viticulture co-operation programmes. With more than 6,000 hectares of vineyard supply Codorníu. During the harvest, we supervise and receive grapes every day to make our own base wines. This is the best guarantee for our quality.

ELABORATION AND FERMENTATION:
After a specially careful night harvest, the grapes are de-stalked, crushed and left macerating for 3-4 hours in order to obtain the desired colour. After that the first fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature of 15º-18ºC for around 10 days. At the end of this process the must becomes wine.

SECOND FERMENTATION AND AGEING:
The obtained wine will ferment a second time in the bottle, distinctive feature to the 'Traditional Method '. It takes place in the interior of the cellars at a constant temperature of 12º-15ºC. The minimum time as established in the Cava Regulatory Council is 9 months for the ageing of a Cava. This particular Cava supersedes the required ageing period, obtaining an elegantly distinguished cava.
