Seth's Favorite Items in 2009

  • Oct 26, 2009

This list is a spin off of Oprah's Favorite things of the year.  My list is based upon products, services, or experiences that have affected me the greatest that other people might be interested in.

1
Artichoke Pizza
You might be asking why a pizza place is number one on my favorite items of 2009. The answer is simple, this is the BEST pizza I have ever tasted. Just writing about it makes my mouth water. The pizza slices are enormous. The Artichoke Pizza is incredibly saucy. The crust is just the right amount of crunch. I could easily have a slice a day and never get sick of it.
2
23andMe.com
I think the concept of 23andme.com is amazing. I want to find out about my ancestry, and see what heredity disease may be in my genetic line. At this point in time, I can not part with 400 dollars to find out about my ancestry and heredity disease. But I find it fascinating, that we can give a company 400 dollars and they can tell me a bundle of information about where I came from, and what my health traits are.
3
Netflix
I have always known about Netflix, but I did not know you could get movies on demand. My roommate had a xbox360. So I tired the xBox360 internet option to get Netflix on demand. OMG is all I can say. I know can watch all my series that I have missed on TV. I can rent with out going to the mailbox, or going to the store. I watch Netflix on the demand all the time now.
4
What would Tyler Durden Do
I live in Los Angeles, what would life be with out my celebrity gossip. That is where What Would Tyler Durden Do (www.wwtdd.com) comes in. The blogger writes the funniest commentary about celebs. His humor is on par with my own feelings about celebrities.
5
Toobz
Toobz, what can I say about this game. Well nothing really because I don't play it. But My girlfriend says she has 2 loves, I'm her first love, and this game, ‘Toobz' is her other love. She has played ‘Toobz' more then I have used my iPhone. She has dreams of ‘Toobz'. This is why ‘Toobz' made my top 10 list. I have never seen someone so obsessed with a game.
6
Turks and caicos
Turks and Caicos is an island in the Caribbean. The island, and the water are a slice of heaven. Granted, it is a hot heaven, but still heaven. I highly recommend visiting this island. The ocean is pristine, and if you get to hot, just put a chair in the ocean and sit in the water. The waves are pretty much non existent so you can just be wet and enjoy the sun while lounging in a chair
7
Dan Simmons
I started reading Dan Simmons in August because he was a hugo winner, 4-5 books later I'm hooked with almost everything he has written. It doesn't hurt that he is a Coloradan!
8
Jaycee Lee Dugard
Jaycee is the feel good story of the year. After being a kidnap victim for 18 years, she is finally found. What are the odds of that. Her tale is an incredible tale.
9
Matt Snider Blog
There are a lot of blogs out there. The best JavaScript blog that I have found is from Matt Snider. His blog is well written, and shows great examples of common JavaScript issues that developers run into.
10
Advocare
When I was on my health kick, Advocare was my supplement of choice. I made HUGE gains with muscle mass, and reduction of body fat when I take Advocare products. For the serious athlete who is looking to take supplements, I highly suggest using the Advocare line.

Very interesting and diverse 'Favorite Things' List, Seth. Netflix on demand will most likely make my 2010 list. We have only just started using this feature in the last month, but I imagine it will be the only way to watch movies once I figure out what cable I need to buy to attach my laptop to my TV. ;)

Mmmmm, #1 makes me hungry.  I love artichoke hearts in my pizza and burgers!  And though #8 was tragic, it was, in a way, a feel good story and brings hope to others who have been under the same circumstances.  Great list, Seth!
