Pros: Ergonomics, custom functions, build quality

Cons: Price

The Bottom Line: An excellent camera for the professional who wants creativity but is also easy for a beginner to use.

I bought this camera as an upgrade from my Nikon FE. I felt that Nikon now has autofocus technology that was useful. I used to own the Nikon N2020, one of the first autofocus cameras that Nikon made. Unfortunately, the autofocus system on the N2020 was poor at best. With the F5, the dynamic autofocus was able to keep up with 8 two year olds at a recent birthday party for my son. This camera has features that are too numerous to mention. This camera is as easy to operate as a point-and-shoot camera with ergonomics that are excellent. People have said that this is a heavy camera but being the owner of a Mamiya medium format system, it doesn't feel heavy at all. It is well balance especially when using it with a telephoto lens. There are 24 custom functions built into the camera which helps to dial in the feel you want with the camera. There is nothing that I dislike about the camera. It makes taking pictures, so much easier. I only need to think about the composition of the picture rather than the picture plus the camera. I would recommend only long-time serious amateurs or professionals should use this camera because of the additional functions and the price.
