Slow, but Decent

I joined Vimeo as an alternative to YouTube. What I like about Vimeo is it's more original material that you wouldn't normally find on YouTube. They have channels, the ability to comment on others video, the ability to tag and "assign roles" to people in video, and viewers can request certain types of videos from users.

Users can also directly upload videos from their phones to Vimeo.

The only downside is uploading a video longer than 15 seconds, I say 15 seconds because that's how long I can record video on my phone, it will take what seems like forever for your video to upload. Your video goes in line to be processed and can take sometimes 2 hours before it can viewed on Vimeo.

However you can pay to become a premium member and have your video bumped up in line.

Over all I prefer to use Vimeo over YouTube because I don't have to deal with excessive libdubs, spam comments, and excessive vlogs. The layout is clean and the site overall is not cluttered.

I really like the way the player looks in comparison to YouTube. We're starting to see it trickle into Lunch, like in this Boxee iPhone app review.

I only had a YouTube account for a short time, and didn't upload anything. But my friends who use YouTube tell me that the upload time is much quicker than Vimeo. But then again recently YouTube has been having problems uploading. I know one person who was trying for over a day to upload two videos. With Vimeo it just depends on how many other people are uploading videos at the same time you are. Uploading only takes a few minutes, depending on your internet speed and size of the file. It's the processing that can take forever. But they do send you an e-mail when your video is posted.

Awesome! I'm getting to the point that I'd like to create some video for my blog, and have been trying to decide b/w Vimeo and YouTube. Do you know if YouTube also has a long wait time for processing and uploading?

YouTube is overrated. Oops, don't quote me! I want to live!!!   I blog about a video by the amazing Jonathan Jarvis (he's fast becoming my idol!) on The Crisis of Credit Crunch about 2 weeks ago when I received a link from a friend in my emails. It is a brilliant piece of work; well crafted, comprehensive & amazingly clear to us mortals. Here's the said video. Make sure you watch it!          The Crisis of Credit Visualized from Jonathan …

I think Vimeo is superior to YouTube, the interface is much more pleasant to look at, and the uploading process is streamline.

Vimeo was one of the first places I found to host HD quality video. I like the interface better than YouTube
