Happy Anniversary - Wiser's Red Letter Canadian Whiskey

  • Mar 8, 2010

Wiser's Red LetterIn 1857  J.P Wiser began making whisky.  This whiskey, known as Wiser’s Red Letter Rye, was a huge success and led to the companies original good fortunes both in Canada and the United states.  In 2007 Wiser’s celebrated the 150th anniversary of this success by making a special anniversary bottling of J.P. Wiser’s Original Red Letter Canadian Whisky.  Only 6000 bottle were produced, with all of the whiskey finished for an extra 150 days in virgin white oak casks.  This final finish was similar to the entire aging that the original whiskey produced 150 years ago received.

About this product

Wiser's Whisky Distillery was established in Prescott, Ontario in 1857. In the early 1900s, Wiser's was the third largest distillery in Canada, producing high-quality whisky that supplied markets in Canada and the United States, China and the Philippine Islands. In 1911, the company employed over 100 workers in the distillery operation. But with the death of J.P. Wiser the company struggled and was sold to Corby Distilleries and production was moved to the Belleville area in 1932. Since at least the 1980s, Wiser's Canadian Whisky has been distilled and bottled at the Hiram Walker & Sons distillery in Windsor, and aged in the Pike Creek area of Lakeshore.
