An American's point of view

This committed liberal has just become a Tea Party convert more conservative than Elmer Fudd. Yes, I’m talking about the half-time disgrace of Super Bowel XLVI featuring a panting 53-year-old who’s sell-by-date expired 20 years ago. When she did those middle-aged squats I could hear her knees crack. And who ever heard of Mathangi Arulpragasam? Sounded foreign to me. She proved she was either a foreigner or a liberal when she gave the bird to us tax-paying, hard working, honest Americans. Why the hell couldn’t they have just asked a real American like Shirley Jones to come out and sing some Rodgers and Hammerstein songs for us? God, I love “People Will Say We’re in Love.”

Don’t tell me Obama didn’t have a hand in this. He’s shown again how he’s leading this great country of ours down so that we can’t fight four full-blown wars for freedon and oil at the same time. Under his so-called leadership the U.S. can’t even keep up with North Korea when it comes to regimented, boring stadium productions. And the gap will only grow.

Super Bowl Half Time was pretty dreadful stuff, all right. Thank heavens the pretty good game distracted us a bit from the silliness. I hadn't watched a Super Bowl in 20 years. But had just driven with wife 1000+ miles from Western NC to Dallas to be for eight days or so with our younger son, daughter in law and their two girls. Just after arriving in Big D, had rushed an end of year basketball team party in which one granddaughter's 4th grade basketball team at Saint Monica's took on their dads, the latter wearing wigs, lipstick makeup and wearing tee shirts calling themselves the MOMSTERS. The girls won. It didn't hurt that the two lady refs were on their side, occasionally shooting baskets for the girls! The dads had fun, too. Against that backdrop came SUPERBOWL XLVI or whichever one it was. Better football than the last game I remember from a couple of decades back. Since I was more or less compelled to pick a winner, I opted in advance for the Giants on literary grounds. Why? James Fenimore Cooper was an ardent New Yorker, loving his State with its still easy-going Dutch ways, and he loathed puritanical New Englanders for migrating in droves to New York and making it sanctimonious. He thought them the ruination of America -- even though some of them had given us the Boston Tea Party. Long live "cakes and ale!" Tea goes well with cakes, too, be it admitted. Thanks for reviewing. Cordially, Qigongbear/Patrick K
