The best of the Star Treks

As a child, in the 1980's, I can remember my dad being very excited about this new Star Trek series.  He had grown up watching the original series & was (still is) an avid sci-fi fan.  I was a little young to appreciate TNG during its first few seasons but as I got older I became hooked.

This series is, far & away, the best of the Star Treks.  I used to watch the original Star Trek re-runs that were aired, late at night, in the early 1990's.  That was a good show, for its time, & I really enjoyed all the the motion pictures.  The other attemps (Deep Space 9 & Voyager) were lackluster, at best.  I watched them in the begining but quickly lost interest.  I don't mention Enterprise because I haven't really watched it & I'm just not interested.

TNG had such a great cast & the storylines were always fun & engaging.  There's just something about this show that keeps me coming back.  I know I've probably seen every episode, at least once, & I still love watching the re-runs whenever I find them on TV.

If you watch the 1st pilot from the Original Star Trek, The Cage, you can get some idea of what Roddenberry originally intended for the series. But the studio would not let him do what he wanted. I think TNG was closer to his vision but DS9 is better science fiction. The Federation was an idealistic joke. People were still supposed to get their egos wrapped up in CAREERS. So much worship of AUTHORITY in The CAPTAIN. I wanted to slap Picard up side the head in The Pegasus episode. I would have left some photon torpedoes inside the asteroid and not revealed the cloaking device to the Romulans. Let them think I self destructed the ship. If higher ups wanted to reveal the cloak to the Romulans that was their business. The goody two shoes Federation had me wanting to puke sometimes.
