This year I visited Louisville for the third time. The previous two times, I stayed at the Galt House Hotel and Suites. You can read about those stays here. I wanted to try a new location this year and chose the SpringHill Suites. It was a pleasant switch. With the $129 convention rate, I found the SpringHill Suites to be a great value for the type of room and location of the hotel.
I used the workout room, which was apportioned with treadmills, elliptical machines, and a weight set. The weight set could be configured for many different exercises, but the manual for the different settings was absent. I tried to reconfigure the set a couple of times, but tired of experimentation and not quite being sure if things were configured safely and correctly. So I gave up on the weights and just had an aerobic workout.
As you can see from the photo above, the room offers a very comfortable sitting area with good light for reading on the couch. The desk area has wired Internet access with a rolling office chair. I was able to accomplish my usual few hours of office work a day while on vacation with great ease. :-)
The room provides a small refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. I confess that I didn't use any of them, but they are nice to have if you need them.
The bed linens are high quality with ample pillows and soft comforter. The throw pillows don't do anything for me, but I think my wife would have liked them. I prefer lighting that I can easily turn off while under the covers, as I like to read until I get quite sleepy. In this particular room, I had to actually exit the bed to turn off the lights, which kind of defeats the purpose of reading until drowsy. The music console in the center has a hook up for your MP3 player, so you can wake up to your own music in the morning.
The tiny bathroom sink is strictly for washing your hands. The sink in the shower room is intended for shaving, brushing your teeth, and washing your face.
The shower head provides different options and intensity levels and it is very easy to get in and out. I don't typically take a bath in a hotel, so I prefer a walk in shower to stepping into a tub.
The hotel is in easy walking distance from the convention center and there is a gas station with a convenience store across the street. On your way to the convention center, you are forced to walk past a pornography shop, but for the most part the walk through downtown seems safe during normal waking hours.
