The book was better than the movie in my opinion...its different from the movies in a lot of ways. If you see the movie first and then read, you'll be wondering why they cut and changed so much.
One of my favorite thrillers of all-time and a great modern science fiction novel. Crichton knew how to take real science and combine it with an imaginative plot to create superb fiction.
