Slim history of Steelers goes decade by decade from 1930s to the 2013 draft.  Along the way author Grdnic had access to interview some mostly minor figures from Steeler history (the most well known is Andy Russell, who I was surprised to learn was independently wealthy because of wise investing in an era when players weren't paid millions) and he scatters that material about in the chapters.

Because the book is so slim it mostly boils down to year by year recaps (up to the Chuck Noll era mostly of lovable-loser seasons) and recaps of the player drafts, which were also mostly bad BC (before Chuck).  There was one year in the 1930s when the Steelers first pick came in the 8th round.  Then after the glory years when every draft yielded Pro Bowlers and Hall of Famers there was a commensurate slide back down the hill in the 80s and 90s before Hines, Ben, and Troy restarted the Super Bowl machine with Super Bowl XL.

But the writing around the recaps is slim and the pictures are few and small because of the size of the book, so this can easily be bypassed by most fans.  Despite the subtitle there really aren't that many stories, let alone the greatest.  Compare this to the similar volume for the Pirates which I found much more interesting.
