Suzanna Love stars as Lacey a young woman who's life is plagued by a childhood incident that involved her brother, the babysitter, her boyfriend, a knife and a mirror. Years have passed and her brother Wily (played by Suzanna's real life brother Nicholas) has been shocked into a state of silence by the incident. Lacey has been having violent and ghastly dreams about a masked slasher that wants to kill her. Does this monster in her dreams have any relationship to an old ghost from the past? John Carradine has a small role as a psychiatrist who tries to uncover the mystery to Lacey's nightmare.

The Boogeyman was a surprise hit on the independent circuit. Ulli Lommel was looking to making a stylish exploitation horror film that would make him a lot a money. Highly influenced by "Halloween" (the photography and lighting), Fritz Lang (the use of shadows) and his last horror film "Tenderness of the Wolves". The film was such a hit that Hollywood came calling. But Lommel didn't want to be typecast as a horror filmmaker and turned down offers to direct more slasher films. Years later the movie was quasi-remade and in return for letting them remake the movie, The Boogeyman was re-released on DVD through Sony. A big hit? Yes. Sadly, instant success has it's draw backs. Lommel made a sequel, a re-edited version of the film and has reused footage from it (too keep the rights tot he footage) in quite a few of his other projects.

I enjoyed The Boogeyman for what it is. A cheesy, glossy and violent horror film.
