The Funhouse is surprisingly well directed. The chills were genuine and the acting was creditable. I was not displeased and I enjoyed it very much. Tobe Hooper delivered the goods on this picture. It's funny how one's opinions can change as they move on in life. When I first saw this movie (twenty years ago) I didn't think that much of it, but now I have a whole new respect for it. However I would like to make a note about the main character, the young innocent brunette. She was very attractive and made a very nice lead (easy on the eyes).

A teenage girl decides to go to the local carnival with her annoying buddies.  The carnival is a real sleazy dump.  After visiting the freakshow and the "fortune" teller, the kids decide to take a trip into the Funhouse.  Bored and foolish, they decide to stay overnight in the carnival and party in the funhouse.  But the sleazy owner of the ride and his creepy son (wearing a Frankenstein Monster's mask) don't take too kindly of some dumb nosy kids shacking up inside their ride.  To punish the dolts, father and son deal out some carny justice.

This would be Tobe Hooper's last small budget project before he sank his career with Poltergeist. A film that literally cursed his resume for lack of true film credit.
