This is the results show for American Idol Season 9 top 20 contestants. Two female and two male singers will be leaving the competition based on America's votes.

Season 8 third place winner Danny Gokey performs his new single. Two female and two male contestants are voted off. The ones eliminated are John Park, Jermaine Sellers, Michelle Delamor, and Haeley Vaughn.

This was a strange result's show. The beginning left me confused because it was so dramatized. There were close up camera shots of all the contestants as they walked solemnly toward your screen. Ryan shouted out their names like everyone was about to enter a wrestling free for all. It was too over the top. We haven't hit the episode where America finds out who is going on tour, so the suspense was overkill. The intro left me scratching my head in confusion: What show am I watching again?

The show picked up a little when the contestants came out and sang "I Gotta Feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas. That song always perks me up. Unfortunately, my mood didn't stay on a high because another strange and confusing part happened.

This strangeness originated at the judge's table. Ryan spoke with everyone, and when we got to Simon Cowell, I was surprised by his comments. Simon was chastising himself for giving praise to someone who didn't deserve it during this week's episodes. Ryan tried to get him to divulge who the singer was, but Simon just reminded himself and the viewers about the differences between a live and televised performance. What was the point of even mentioning the comment if the person he was referring to doesn't know that they need improvement? I couldn't tell if he was trying to scare the singers or if he was reminding the viewers to not always rely on the judges' praise. This episode was feeling too cryptic for even my tastes.

The cryptic messages dissipated when Ryan announced the male singers who would be leaving the show. I was not surprised by the choices. Their performances weren't good enough. Things quickly returned to strangeness, though. During the second man's farewell song, a stage hand was visibly seen on a balcony in the background moving people during the performance. The quick movements and flailing of the worker's hands distracted me from the singing. I felt sorry for this contestant because his moment was ruined (or at least tainted) by bad stage directions. I've never seen a result's show so terribly organized!

Order came back with Danny Gokey's performance of "My Best Days Are Ahead of Me." It was nice to see him back on the show because he always had an optimistic presence despite his tragic past. Surprisingly enough, he hasn't changed a bit! Instead, he was perkier as he talked about the meaning behind the song as well as his connections with the writer (they both had wives who passed away). His excitement was overpowering, like the energizer bunny. I wanted Ryan to pat his head until Danny calmed down. I guess even the guest star had to keep up with the odd vibes of the episode.

When Ryan revealed the women who were leaving, I was disappointed about one of them. I wanted to see her continue in the competition and grow as an artist. Alas, America did not agree.

A final comment about the show was Debbie. I guess she is the stage manager (at least that is what Ryan said when he brought her out briefly at the end of the episode). There was a point earlier in the show where she was screaming at Ryan while he was on stage. Ryan was screaming back. What was that about? I guess it proves that American Idol truly is a live show.

Yeah, anything can happen when it's live, I suppose. lol. I can't believe they had a stage hand moving around in the background while a performance was going on. That's just crazy. I know the performance is live and all and things can get chaotic sometimes, but it seems like that would be a big error to make while someone is performing. Wonder if that person got fired, lol.

I was wondering that too! The camera guy zoomed in really quickly as soon as they noticed someone in the background. Maybe they were hoping people wouldn't notice. Why did it matter where the two people were standing anyway? I didn't get the point...
