Not the one with Nick Cage, thankfully

Calling all reality TV junkies! Face Off contains everything we've come to expect from trashy TV competitions:
  • Mean judges
  • Weekly elimination
  • Endless drama and bitching
  • Lots of swearing
  • Cameras everywhere
But they added a secret ingredient: movie special effects makeup. Cancel Wednesday evenings! The amazing thing is that this idea has been screaming out for years to the deaf ears of TV executives - building aliens and monsters under the threat of being sent home every week. The remarkable part is that the level of quality is really very good. I mean, could you build these (pictures at the bottom)?

Ok, so the contestants are the usual bunch of creatives, namely social misfits who hate everyone else. A few of them are legendary in their endless complaining. The most annoying have already been booted off the show, but as soon as one leaves then somebody else decides to become the Pain In The Ass of the Week. I don't think Jo and Megan are going to make it. I think Conor is probably going to win it. Pretty gripping, despite the griping.

Or how about this...

I actually started getting into this series since the other night. I liked that "Him" design...it was intriguing. I was waiting on you to review this one. Thanks for the review!

As soon as I saw the trailer, I immediately prepped the TiVo! I'm a sucker for anything like this (especially the cake-making contests on Food Network). :-)

I had mixed feelings about it at first and then It started to quickly grow on me. I especially liked the latest episode, not surprising, since I like horror make up effects.

I wish there were more focus on technique and production rather than everyone bitching to each other. Otherwise it's a great concept. It's also a dying art, since everything will be CGI in about 5 minutes from now.
