Plots Within Plots

Erica is furiously scouring over her FBI lists looking for someone she recognizes from the warehouse when Jack interrupts her at the door. Erica is then called in to deal with a V assassination plot. She is obviously less than thrilled to be helping the Visitors, let alone be partnered with one (especially since her last V partner tried to kill her).

Erica is able to save Marcus from being shot by a human dressed as a V, and the two exchange pleasantries before she sneaks off to an observation room. There, she finds hundreds of tiny monitors floating in the air, clearly belonging to the Visitors to spy on humans. Erica notices herself on camera in the room and tracks the camera to the button flap on the V uniform hanging on the door.

Once again (and again) Father Jack doesn’t know what to do. He goes to Erica’s house and continues the search for someone they recognize. He comes across Georgie’s name and heads to find him at an abandoned farmhouse. All he finds is an older woman who tell him Georgie’s story. Jack leaves his card with her and goes back to his church. Upon arrival, he is help up at gunpoint by Georgie himself, until Jack can convince him they are on the same side.

Ryan walks his wife to work and then hops into a car with Georgie. He then proceeds to tell Georgie about The Fifth Column, a large group of Visitor rebels and their leader, John May. Ryan goes to find John May by visiting his second in command, Cyrus, but is betrayed because Cyrus has been promised reconnection if he spies for the Visitors.

On board the ship, a doctor named Jordan is trying to help Dale remember what happened. All that Dale can remember is that Erica saw his face, so he tries to get up and leave so he can take care of her. Jordan stops him, however, and kills him. Jordon is part of The Fifth Column!

Anna smiles at Chad Decker as she becomes the first Visitor to be granted a U.S. Visa. This riles up the anti-V protesters, who have reached a fevered pitch outside the Manhattan Visitors area, clashing with police and even making a death threat towards Anna. Later, aboard the ship Anna stresses to the other ship leaders the importance of being liked by the humans. Afterwards, Anna meets with the leader of the V protestors privately, where she “somehow” manages to turn the woman’s view completely around.

Of course, the assassination attempt was a set-up. There are secrets inside secrets on V, and you can never quite tell just what is going to happen next. This episode featured not only one, but two double-crosses. Just when you think you've got a handle on who is what, the show takes another unexpected twist.

Tyler and Lisa meet for pizza and then go back to Tyler’s place. When Erica arrives home Tyler hides his V jacket, explaining that him mother doesn’t like the Visitors. He then foolishly tried to distract his mother who (as an FBI agent) sees right through him and goes to his room. There she finds Lisa, who has taken off her V uniform so as not to offend. Erica has Tyler take Lisa home.

In the end, Georgie and Ryan meet up with Erica and Jack. Together at last! Meanwhile, on the ship, Anna tells Lisa that Tyler “is the one.”

There was a lot going on this episode. Plots within plots, double crosses, secret agents, and the long-awaited reveal of the presence of the Fifth Column.

Humans are in relationships with Visitors. Visitors are turning against other Visitors. Humans are turning against some Visitors, and making alliances with other Visitors. The Visitors have sleepers in the FBI, the Fifth Column has agents in the Visitor motherships and the FBI, and for all we know, there are human resistance members in the Peace Ambassador program. Given how extensive and subtle the V surveillance has been, there's no telling just how far their tendrils reach.
