So Would You like To Know What I Usually Order in a Chinese Restaurant?

  • Apr 9, 2010
Chinese food....mmmm!! So good! We've all been to a Chinese restaurant at one time or another. I've been getting these hypnotic messages from some unknown source that insists that "Stop reviewing movies...we want food reviews..." (probably from @devora or @Sharrie) so here I am. It finally got to me. So anyway, I've been known to order certain dishes when I am at a Chinese restaurant. I am an adventurous eater but I do have my favorites. The following is a list of the dishes me and my friends have grown to enjoy... a lot!!
Peking (Roast) Duck
So full of flavor especially when it comes with a bun. Great as an appetizer even.
Mongolian Beef
Tender Beef, hot spicy tangy sauce...need I say more?
Suckling Pig
The Chinese version of the Filipino good yet so dangerous.
Orange Chicken
Ok, sometimes you see this more often in Chinese fast food than in an actual gourmet Chinese restaurant. But it is still awesome...especially when made at home!
Shanghai Pork Chops
I have no idea how this is made; but the mix of onions, eggs and creamy tasty sauce just make the pork chops really awesome!
Sweet and Sour Rock Cod
Crispy battered fish immersed in a sauce of pineapple, sweet juice, green peppers and onions.
Claypot Chicken Rice
Slow cooked to perfection...
Deep Fried Flounder
Something about this flat fish just makes me so hungry!
Walnut Prawns
Walnuts, creamy sauce, honey, cabbage, prawns....what do you think?
Beef Stew Clay Pot
So tender and juicy..."stewing" at one of its best.
Pot Stickers
The Biggest Pot Sticker I've ever seen is the size of McDonald's Cheeseburger..I kid you not!
War Won Ton Noodle Soup
Noodles....good! won ton...good! beef...good! shrimp....good! checken....good! what's there not to like?
Chinese Steamed Chicken
In my opinion...better than Fried Chicken!
Beef With Tender Greens
I always almost order this with steamed rice....
Crispy Fried Chicken
served with that crispy won ton and chives...mmmm!!
Chop Suey (Mixed veggis)
cooked with firm tofu and it is marvelous!!
Combination Fried Rice
The Fried Rice with Everything!!!
Chow Fun
The flat noodle that I am very fond of.

What did you think of this list?

Great list WP and all of it is good but 1, 4, & 5 are great. My girl actually got me to eat the duck, don't know why I never tried it before then.

I'm hungry! LOL!

2, 4 and 11 are among my favorites. No General Tso's?
April 10, 2010
Some of these are not quite Chinese but anything for the community is good for me, LOL... I've been eating lots of cakes these days and now you're making me hungry all over again! Darn, I really need to go on diet! ;p

Now you know what Chinese restaurants are serving here. I am with you, I've had better Chinese different dishes when I was in the Philippines and HK.

#18 is actually beef hor fun. The restaurant you frequent calls it chow fun?
April 10, 2010
yup. It is weird...restaurants either have them with veggies, chicken or beef.
April 10, 2010
No, that is a Chinese dish. It's just the name that sounds a bit out ;-)

So far there're only three Chinese restaurants I really like TON KIANG, R & G Lounge and Koi Garden. Chinese restaurants also tend to cater more to American consumers so I imagine the ones in Asia to be better.
April 10, 2010
San Francisco has big Chinatown. What I suspect is you go to the ones that the locals frequent and not the ones that most Chinese would go. Do you see lots of Chinese in those restaurants you visit?
April 10, 2010
Ton Kiang is pretty much in an Asian neighborhood and R&G is in Chinatown. Oh, there's a couple we also go to because it is owned by the family of a friend; but it is still pretty much aimed at Americans.

Chop Suey? That isn't even really Chinese. But you've made me so hungry I can't stand it and I'm too broke to go get take out!! What I get depends on where I go because every place has something they do best. I'm a sucker for orange chicken or lemon chicken though or orange beef. Or this one place has baked rice with shitake mushrooms that is so good! Garlic chicken is my real weakness right now. And who doesn't like Mongolian Beef? I love a really good hot and sour soup--preferably a bit more on the sour side. Kung Pao chicken. Oh now you've done it Woop! Aaaarrrggghhh!!!
April 10, 2010
ok, now that you've mentioned those other dishes...I am hungry! LOL
April 11, 2010
A little Crab Rangon would be a nice way to start off...
July 09, 2010
I'm right with you on the garlic chicken and hot and sour soup! OMG I am too hungry right now!
July 12, 2010
and maybe a really nice pork fried rice...
April 09, 2010
Mmmmm, nice mix of various Chinese cuisines. Yes at the duck being at the top! It was my parents' birthdays last night, so we got several of these dishes at Legendary Palace in Oakland. The only thing I would add to this list is a bit more shellfish.... crabs and LOBSTER, especially over noodles :D Great list, Woo!
April 10, 2010
You had better email Woopak the best CHINESE restaurant in San Francisco. I don't think he's eating right, LOL...
April 10, 2010
well, I'm not a big lobster or crab nope those weren't on this list.
April 10, 2010
what is that dish with the flat noodle but with prawns and soup? I had it in C-town before....
April 12, 2010
Prawns, noodles and soup? Thick or watery soup? Nothing quite comes to mind right now.... But what subliminal messages? *shifty eyes* ;P
April 12, 2010
flat noodle, prawns and thck soup... (yes, your majesty, more food is coming*) Know what its called?
April 09, 2010
Since I'm a veggie I'm pretty much restricted to two or three dishes at most restaurants, so I don't have this many options. I usually get plain white rice, veggie fried rice, Buddha's Delight, or steamed vegetables with rice. Back when I used to eat meat, #4 and #15 were my favorites.
