I have been using cat litter for several years and not just for cats, this is also good for the garage floor and driveway to absorb oil spots. Purina has come out with a cat litter that is made of recycled newspaper and has been out since 1987. This is environmentally friendly cat litter. This stuff is good for your pets, home, and environment. If you do not use some type of litter and you let the cat just go, the dogs will think that these little pieces of cat feces are nothing but a little brown treat. The dogs will run and seek out where the cat droppings have deposited. I know because there have been several times that I have caught my dogs with their head inside of the litter box, just like they do when you leave the lid up on their porcelain water bowl (toilet bowl). But, since we are forever changing our litter in our cats litter box, we look at all of our options. Such as, the price and how well does it really work. A lot of cat litters are just a run of the mill inexpensive scoop-able clay cat litters. There are hundreds of different brands on the market today that will do the same thing, but will also cost twice as much. This type of litter comes in different pound bags and can be found in a bag 5,10, and 30 pound bag. This stuff runs about $7.50 for a 5 pound bag. The only place that we have seen this particular type of litter sold at is the Vets. This stuff is made in St. Louis, Mo. By the Nestle Purina pet care company.

Description
This is dark brown in color and comes in little bitty compacted recycled newspaper pellets. The packaging that this litter comes in is also recyclable. This also comes in a fresh scent and fragrance free, but it will scoop very well. When poured straight from the bad, and you can pour it into the litter box and you will not get a cloud of dust from the litter like you do with other types of litter this is almost 100% dust free. That is great if you have sinus troubles, the drier the better, this also makes for better clumping ability. Because this is 3X’s more absorbent, this litter will allow you to only have to change the litter once a month because it has a long lasting effect and you can mix this with any other types of litter and you will get good results. You will get excellent results as soon as you pour this into the litter box. This litter will lock in the odor when it comes in contact any feces, and because the recycled paper is a highly absorbent paper and it will work for days. Instead of having a urine smell, smelling up your house, you will have a clean fresh scent coming from the litter box. No more urine smell as long as you scoop the litter regularly. This is safe enough for your other pets, just incase they ingest it and this will not be tracked outside of the litter box.

Experience
The main reason that we purchased this cat litter, was because our cats just got declawed and the Vet told us that we should use this instead of the clay type. The clay type could possibly damage their paws by the cats needing with their paws. This type of litter will have to be used for seven to ten days and the rest can be mixed with the regular cat litter when you are ready to switch over to your old litter. We have been using this for a little while now and have had positive results when it comes to keeping the smell down, plus the recycled newspaper pieces do not get tract onto the carpeting or floor after they use the litter box. We have two cats, and when we do a full change of litter once a month, we usually use a 5 pound bag of litter at a time. How much litter that you use will depend a lot on the size of your litter box. We have one of those large covered litter boxes, this also helps keep the smell from getting out and smelling up the house. We usually scoop every morning and this ensures that the cats will use the litter box and not some corner somewhere. When they use the box the feces and litter come together and form a small clump, this allows you to use a scoop and just take this out with ease in the morning. Even the urine will form a some type of clump and come out of the litter really easy.
The container says to spread 3" of litter, but I prefer a little more for two cats. I still remember the first night that we had our cats, when we had to use some newspaper the smell was horrendous. Since then, we have learned that this litter from will absorb all the odor and make it nice to have two cats run throughout the house. We always make sure that we put in a generous supply so that our cats will continue to use the litter box and not use any corner of our house.
I have heard horror stories about unruly cats that have behavioral problems and we don't want to endure problems like that. Because, once they start to do that, then they will not stop and I will not hesitate to boot them out. But, I figure that if we do our part and make it nice for them, then they will make it nice for us.

Warnings
If you are pregnant then you will have to have someone else clean the box, because cat feces carries a parasite called toxoplasmosis. This can be transmitted to a pregnant woman or a woman with a suppressed immune system. Also make sure that whomever cleans the litter box washes their hands so that they do not spread the parasite to other women.

Conclusion
I can highly recommend purchasing this type of litter for your cat, if you are planning on having them declawed. This is a little expensive and will leave your house odor free unless you forget to collect the feces from your cats litter box. Also remember, that if your dogs happen to get into the litter box and eat the feces, the feces is also dangerous to them. They could get a disease that will make them incapacitated. My daughter had this happen to her schnauzer. So, remember scoop, scoop, scoop, and you should have no problems.
