I really am unsure as to how I should review something as simple as a water filter. For me most water filters are the same, save for how they actually clean out the tap water. I got the ZeroWater pitcher filtration system for free through the amazon vine program.
What does make this pitcher/filter stand out from Brita and PUR would be the fact that it comes with a TDS meter. While no exactly easy to explain how it works, it shows the drinker how much solid content is still in the water. I think I made a mistake in its use and I should try it again. (It read 047 on my new filter, rather than 000). My unfiltered tap water scored 087 while my 2 month old PUR filter scored 031. I think I may have made a mistake, but other than those issues, I have no complaints.
Well, I supposed I could begin with some comments on its ease of installation and how the manual was pretty straight-forward. The reservoir, the filter and the lid was so easy to place in the ergonomically-designed filter. The pitcher is actually quite larger than the PUR water pitcher that I am currently using, while the Zero filter is much more bigger than the PUR filter.
The pitcher is pretty fancy. There is a button that allows you to pour water from it without removing it from its spot in the fridge. The material is pretty light for its size and kids (over 8 or so) should have little trouble getting water. The handle is easy to grasp and hold on to. The pitcher does look fancier than the ones made by PUR or even Brita.
Now for the water taste. Well, I was quite happy with the PUR water filter I was using before and ZEROWater does make the life-giving liquid a much more cleaner texture and taste. But there is the possibility that it cleans it too thoroughly that it may have taken out the good stuff along with the bad stuff. This is an FDA approved filter so it should be a lot better. The water from this filter just reminds me of the water I drink at work where it comes from 4 different kinds of filtration. I am sure it is good; the water feels clean and the taste is good--but I am undecided with only 2 days of use whether it worth replacing my PUR water filter with it. I will update this review once I decide.
Water taste is very important to me. I would say ZEROWATER may not taste better but the same; but it is slightly different, not in a bad or good way, I just can’t tell if it is for the good. The water’s texture does feel different after running it through this filter and gives a feeling of ‘clean’. With PUR, it tastes good but the texture remains the same. With ZeroWater, it tastes good but the texture feels slightly different and similar to the water at work--it is good, but has a slight artificial texture. I have no idea which one should be better.
Still, ZEROWATER is worth a try and one should decide for himself. I guess I am just not too picky with my water. This product does have the right idea and I like the addition of the TDS meter.
