Well, its late spring and it is never too late to start earlier to start treating your lawn. Know is the best time to look for all of the great deals at your local hardware and home improvement stores. A lot of times you will find a great deal in the most unlikely of places. I usually stay away from the hardware stores because they are so high in price but for some unknown reason I decided to make a quick stop in my local Ace Hardware store and just look around. I was going to my local home improvement store to look for a fertilizer spreader because I knew that I was going to spend around fifty dollars, but this particular day it was half price day at Ace. There it was the perfect spreader at the perfect price, CHEAP!, and at that bargain price I wasn't leaving the store without it. I considered it for about twenty seconds and walked out only paying $25.00. This was a real steal in my book.

Description
This spreader is made of mostly plastic parts with the exception of the handle (which has a foam grip wrapped all around this part)and the axle that are made of steel. These parts are coated or painted in black to help prevent rusting. This type of spreader only weighs approximately 15 pounds. This is made for private homeowners and not contractors. I have a small yard (approximately 100' deep x 70' wide in size) so this spreader is perfect for my yard. I have used this for spreading fertilizer in the summer and salt in the winter. There is a lever for the adjustment to allow only the exact amount of product that you may need on your lawn. You will have to check the product that you are using for the proper setting. Different types of spreaders have different settings. This spreader also have very large 10" wheels which make is easier to push at a brisk walk and will give you a more even distribution of product. The bucket will hold an eighty pound bag of fertilizer, that is 1900 cu.in. of space that this will hold.

Experience
I have been using this for a couple of years for all year service (summer and winter) and switching back and forth from fertilizer to salt mixture has not affected the operation of this spreader at all. With the oversized wheels this does not slip in the wet grass or on the snow in the winter. There are deep grooves that help grab the surface of the ground when this spreader is full of product.

Since this is so light in weight it is very easy to push along at a brick walk to be able to apply the correct amount of product desired. All you have to do is adjust the application lever to the desired amount that you want to apply, and the product falls out of the bottom of the bucket onto a flat square spinning blade with raised fins, that will disperse the fertilizer out in a circular motion. This is the best way that I know how to beat all of those landscaping businesses. They will charge you about 50 to 80 dollars per application, and this is done at least five times a year. That is a lot of fertilizer and only a few minutes of your time to lay this down.

Once you get the hang of what your lawn needs for it to look good then you will be saving a lot of money and you will also not have to worry about them (the landscaping outfits) trying to sell you any other bug control products or services.

Conclusion
If you are able to walk and do not have a large yard then this spreader will help in saving you money and time. This is very easy to clean up, with a just a quick rinse and then all you have to do is find a special place to hang this up at. By placing a couple of hooks high enough, then it will be out of the way until the next time that you want to use it. If you leave it sit in the middle of your shed or garage, I have found this to just get in the way and being shoved all around. So, I highly recommend that you may want to pick a spot from the start to store this, and you will not be tripping over it when it is not in use.

You will probably only be using this only five times a year if you are going to be using it for fertilizer your lawn. I have also found that all of these spreaders do work with the same principle in mind, so in my book the cheaper that they are the better it is for your pocket book, no matter what name is stamped on the side. The one thing that I have learned is that anyone can have a very nice lawn, it just depends on how lazy that they are and whether or not they want to get up out of their chair and got to the store and pick up the fertilizer that they may need. If you are having not knowing what to use you can always ask your local hardware or home improvement store and they will be glad to recommend something depending on what type of problem that you may be having. But, overall once you get the knack of it, taking care of your lawn is as simple as understanding women. (LOL)
