Oh no, another Trader Joe's addiction.

Admittedly, I have a severe addiction to dried fruit. 9 times out of 10 I think I might like it more than fresh fruit - it's easier to eat and a little sweeter - nature's candy! This is extremely helpful, especially right now as I am trying to limit my intake of [non-natural] sugar.

Dried apricots have always been one of my favorite kinds of dried fruit, but it's so hard to find a package of them that isn't leathery OR upwards of $15. All dried fruit is expensive, but come on! I've seriously seen tiny little pakages of dried apricots at Whole Foods for like, $8 at least. And when you get them they're that weird dark orange color, and so chewy you can't even enjoy them. Blech.

I bought apricots at Trader Joe's this weekend and sort of expected them to be as bad as the rest. They looked a lot brighter and more orange than other apricots so I figured I've give them a shot - still, I had no expectations.

I mixed them together with some raisins and nuts (love making my own lazy-persons trail mix) for a snack. When I bit into one it was AMAZINGLY juicy and perfect. I was totally shocked - it was like they had skipped an entire part of the dehydration process and left some of the fresh fruit intact! DELICIOUS.

At $3.99 (actually..they may have been $2.99!) for a decent-sized bag (I'd say at LEAST 60-100 apricots) you really can't go wrong. They're a wonderful and nutritious snack!

UPDATE: After I wrote this review I realized the apricots are so moist and orange because they are preserved with sulfur dioxide. This led me to decrease my rating to a +3 instead of a +5 - they are still amazing, just not if you like organic/pure food. As a person who does not like chemicals ANYWHERE (especially not in food) I am very disappointed by my oversight when buying these...I'll have to just eat them in moderation until the bag is done!  :S

When is Trader Joe's coming to Maine? I love the sound of all their food.

Nice review. This is an item I might be willing to try. Good idea making your own trail mix..

Trader Joe's makes it so easy too! I always get a bag of fancy mixed nuts (50% less salt too, ahem) and throw it together with some broken-up rice cake, raisins, and whatever other dried fruit I have on hand.

Don't you mean, "oh yes!"? ;P Do you know if these have any sugar added to them?

They don't! Thank god. However I think they have sulfur dioxide (preservative) added to them, which keeps the color...ughhhh hateeeeee. don't quote me though - I gotta run home and check the package! I'll get back to you.

Tasty. Satisfying. Just sweet enough. Just chewy enough. They need water to wash them down.
