I know what you're probably thinking. And no, Twitalyzer has nothing to do with tweeting under the influence (which, as hilarious as it may be, is a really bad idea!). What it does have to do with, though, is your influence as a tweep. I discovered Twitalyze a few days ago through one of Alyssa Milano's tweets, and as a tweet-aholic and a social media enthusiast, I found its mission and results to be fasinating. One of the main things that this twitter web app does is measure one's twitter's overall impact in the world of social media by evaluating a variety of factors.
To get Twitalyzed, you simply enter your twitter screen name into their system. With me following 300'ish tweeps and having 500'ish followers, my account takes about a minute to Twitalyze, but if you're trying to Twitalyze a twitter big wig like say, Ashton Kutcher, it's going to take more time. And here's the fun part: it tallies up your retweets, @ replies, usage of hashtags, etc, and produces pie charts, graphs and and percentage numbers of how your tweets compare to those of other tweeps. It even gives you pointers on how to increase your influence on twitter if that's what you're looking for.
In summary, here's what Twitalyze measures:
Signal -- This references to how often you @reply and RT as well as include hashtags and URLs in your tweets.
Generosity -- Generosity in the twitterverse refers to one's willingness to pass along ideas and information. In other words, this is measured through how often you retweet others. Furthermore, when you increase your generosity, you'll also increase your signal.
Velocity -- This simply refers to how often you tweet. This isn't to say that you should tweet a lot about nothing though, because by decreasing your signal, you'll, in turn, decrease your overall influence.
Clout -- This measures how likely you are to get retweeted, @ replied or referred to.
Influence -- This above four factors added up. Rather than just measure "popularity", it measures your number of followers, as well as the frequency in which you retweet others, get retweeted, referenced by others and how often you update.
Let's take a look at my very first Twitanalysis as well as the advice given. My signal is "astonishingly high", yet my influence is really low, which probably has something to do with the fact that my generosity, as well as my clout, are low.

If you want to increase your influence in Twitter by 25%:
It is moderately important that you find more followers
It is moderately important that you make a few more friends
It is moderately important that you get other people to retweet you more often
It is somewhat important that you retweet others more often
It is somewhat important that you engage others in conversation more frequently
It is somewhat important that you write more frequently
I took some of the advice offered in the above Twitanalysis and modified my tweeting behavior, namely retweeting others more, tweeting less anecdotal tweets and more tweets with signal, and tweeting more retweet-worthy content. I did the below Twitanalysis the day after the one above. My signal decreased a bit, but all the other aspects increased. I should note that my slight increase in followers had nothing to do with my modified tweeting behavior and were due to other factors.
Isn't this awesome and oh so interesting? In addition to these individual Twitanalyses, Twitalyze also compiles lists such as Top 10 Influencers, Top 100 Influencers, 100 Most Signal-Rich, 100 Most Generous, 100 Most Prolific Authors, and 100 Most Referenced.
Twitalyze is a fairly new site and I'm not sure how valid their results are, but looking at my results above, I can't say that I'm surprised by the results and I find their breakdown of factors in twitter influence to be a great measurement. I think it's useful to note that all of Twitanalyses are based on information from the 7 days prior up to that analysis and I believe that you can only get Twitalyzed every 24 hours.
If you're curious about how influential you are on twitter and/or want to learn how to increase your influence, check out Twitalyzer and give it a whirl and get schooled in the art of tweeting! Its results will job your brain a bit :)
