Full Featured and Easy to Use Universal Remote

The last Universal Remote I had (The Logitek Harmony 670) recently died. It lasted about 2 years and did a decent job of running all of my components (TV, DVR, Receiver, and Media Computer). The 670 was a good, inexpensive, universal remote with some limitations. It was those limitations that led me down the path of looking for other solutions on the market before I just simply replaced the 670 with one of the newer models.
One of the major downfalls of the Harmony 670 that I was hoping to resolve with a new remote was the fact that only I knew how the remote worked.  No matter how many times I reprogrammed the controls to make it easier and more intuitive it just never worked, having guests over and telling them how to operate the system always ended with me bringing out the old remotes.

After researching other remotes with only hard keys and a limited customizable interface it was clear that if I wanted an easy to use interface, the touch screen solution is where I needed to be.

Why the Logitek Harmony 1100?
Quite simply it met all of my requirements and came in at a lower price point then some of the others on
the market. Not only is it easy for me to use, but once it was set up the learning curve for newbies is almost non-existent. In fact I have yet had to break out the other remotes yet.

  • Easy Setup
  • USB Interface to use a computer to configure the controls
  • Logitek Harmony Desktop App is clean and simple to configure the remote
  • Simple Interface with hard keys and Large Touchscreen
  • Rechargeable
  • Significantly cheaper than other touch screen remotes (Philips TSU-9400)

  • Price Tag, although cheaper than others in the touch screen class it is pricey ($389.00 - $540 depending on where you shop)
  • Inability to make small customizations from the device (minor issue)
Overall, very satisfied with my decision.

I've always been attracted to the idea of a touchscreen remote, but I'm always turned off by lack of the ability to "touch type" the commands. After a bit of time, you can you usually work your way around a remote blindfolded, but with the touchscreen do you have to look at the remote constantly? Also - how does the 1100 handle one-handed? I'd hate to have to put my beer down in order to change the channel or skip past the commercials...

great questions. I still haven't run the beer test with it yet. Once I do I'll add the findings to my review.
