I recently received the Tom Tom One PND as a christmas present.   I have used cell phone based navigation applications extensively in the past, so this was my first experience with a PND.

I would describe this version of the product as an entry level device.   The product provides some basic navigation to an address, city or point of interest.  I find the map data very up to date(I assume they're using TeleAtlas since they purchased the company last year).   One of the features this device does not have that is available on some of the higher level products is spoken turn street name instructions.  At first I didn't think this missing feature would be a big deal for me, but I have found that not having the name of the street spoken causing me to have to take my eyes off the road more often than I would like.

Another problem I have found with the device is the routes that it generates for some trips.  The product appears to choose fastest(based upon expected travel time), but does not allow me to control the types of roads it will traverse.   Yesterday I took a 4+ hour trip from Duluth, MN to Paynesville, MN.  The device originally directed me to drive back to the Twin Cities, instead of taking a more direct route.   This route was deemed to be the fastest, but was 50 miles longer than the route I had in my head.  I had the device recalculate a new trip which was more direct.  The device gave me something more along the lines of what I was expecting, but also choose to keep my off some major highways that I would prefer to take.  In the end I drove where I wanted to and the device figured out what I was trying to do and helped me navigate some tricky turns.

Overall I'm pretty impressed with the device and its graphics and features.  I would likely buy a more expensive version with spoken street names and more nav options for the reasons stated above.
