Florence hotel located near the Ponte Vecchio and known for …
We booked a room at this 2-star, family-run hotel (Via Cavour 13, 50129 Firenze) online several months before our trip and they followed up with us by email shortly before we left the USA to confirm our arrival. There are 24 rooms and the rate was 130 Euros per night if paid in cash (we visited in June 2009). The hotel is very conveniently located and within a short walking distance of the Piazza del Duomo, Galleria dell'Accademia, and Galleria degli Uffizi. It's also fairly close to the Santa Maria Nouvella train station, but a taxi is probably a good idea if you have much in the way of luggage. The hotel actually is on the second floor of the building, and this is not immediately obvious as you enter the foyer. Take the small lift up to reception on the second floor. The reception personnel are extremely friendly and helpful. We arrived early, but they stored our luggage and delivered it to our room while we were out getting oriented to Florence. The breakfast was very good and typical of other hotels we visited in Italy – croissants, pastries, stewed prunes, canned peaches in syrup, muesli, orange juice from a little machine, and (of course) cappuccino. Our room (number 10) was nice and very clean. The bathroom was excellent with a large tub and separate shower. The only annoyance was being attacked by voracious mosquitoes both nights. We got up in the middle of the night and did the best we could to secure the windows but it didn't deter the bloodthirsty insects at all. I'd highly recommend Hotel Casci as reasonably priced and in a great location.
