Porto-bell-oh-my.

Hangovers aren't something you should get from Portobello mushroom related sandwiches but I get them entirely too often. You know, where the mushroom hangs way over and past the bun (or other breaded confinement) and you end up with a poor mushroom to everything-else ratio. Bad news.

Veggie Grill, among many other things (like it's vegan/gluten-free/fresh/well-portioned grub people pine over), delivers a good PM sandwich, with no mushroom hangover. There might be an entire clove of garlic, curiously positioned atop the other veggies before I stack the top bun on but other than that everything on it was fresh and well-rationed making consuming enjoyable and organized. The way a sandwich should be.

The flavored iced teas (Hawaiian and Peach) were far too sweet and a little bit disappointing flavor-wise in contrast to everything else edible.

Still, prices were reasonable for such a green machine and my two compatriots equally enjoyed (and finished) their meals, leaving satisfied and guilt free (whatever that means).

Ultimately, as long as that big-ol mushroom isn't double the size of the bun (like it is at Salt Creek Grill, down the plaza) and the flavors are on point, I'm gonna be a happy camper.

Whether the camping is with real or fake meats is irrelevant.

portobello hangover... classic.  I don't know how i missed this review earlier.  Even though i'm not too fond of Veggie Grill, i can really appreciate your review.  I'm not sure i've met many people who would be so concerned about the bello/bun ratio, so that gives me an extra appreciation for your analysis.  Nice work!!

Mmm, I order these at The Counter once in a while, except with cheese.  This burger sounds delicious, too, but what's a mushroom hangover?  Should it be a new word in my vocabulary? :P  Thanks for sharing!

We found Veggie Grill by pure mistake in El Segundo. I thought it would be another place that takes vegetarianism litterally to grilling veggies..but no. This place has everything a regular hamburger joint would have but vegan, delicious, healthy and NO processed foods or sugars or anything!      So I fell in love with this place.      My favorites are the Bali Bliss (burger), sweetheart fries, soups and salads, and the really good homemade strawberry …

The concept of Veggie Grill really delights me. The website says- Our purpose at The Veggie Grill is to serve you delicious and wholesome food. By wholesome, we mean good calories and good fats that are 100% plant-based.      I love this statement. Also, Veggie Grill is the brainchild of the co-founder of another of my favorite restaurants - Native Foods. So in theory I should love the chain...but there is just something that is keeping me from a "5" rating. Since I'm …

@ariajuliet and @MelissaAq once raved about hitting up Veggie Grill to me and fellow meat lover @RyanWeiss. When they finally went, I still wasn't a believer. Not until another recent time we needed something to eat, and I was down to try something new. Veggie Grill is for sure something I've never had before; a vegan restaurant that serves meat like platters such as burgers, chicken sandwiches and carne asada burritos. I couldn't imagine me buying into the idea of enjoying a meatless burger, so …

not a fan, too bland for me. I've described it as the most unsatisfying meal i've ever eaten. not trying to be harsh, just not my taste.
