Once again a night of hardcore... or as close to hardcore as they think can get.

For those who don't know. Extremes Rules is meant to be WWE's night of hardcore. In other words, a night of mayhem in the form of gimmick matches with the rules thrown out. At Extreme Rules 09, WWE tried to pull off a night of hardcore with a PG rating. In all fairness, that event didn't fail for that reason, the event was just poor in quality. Therefore, whether a hardcore event has blood or not is completely irrelevant. It depends on how entertaining the matches are.

2010's edition was a huge step up, but overall, the event was just above average. I was looking forward to this one too. I wasn't completely disappointed with it, since a majority of the matches were solid. But I hoped for so much more.

1-Gauntlet Match for a future title shot at the Unified Tag Team Championship
Big Show & Miz(C) vs. R-Truth & John Morrison vs. MVP & Mark Henry vs. The Hart Dynasty
This is a tag team elimination match. The rules are: Two teams will begin, and a new team will enter after each fall.

This match took place due to a pretty funny segment that is worth listening to. Long story short, Miz runs his mouth off about not having any competition, in which, he draws a bit of heat. Teddy Long appears and grants his wish, in the form of this Tag Team Gauntlet. This was a solid opener that put over a good story, with the Big Show and Miz trying to overcome the odds, and things kept getting worse for them as time went on. Despite feeling rushed with a very predictable end, there was a good amount of action here. 3/5

2-If CM Punk Loses, He gets his head shaved
CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio

This was one of the more interesting feuds coming in. These two put on a quick, solid contest at the previous event. They got more time to work here which was a good thing. The match moved at a slow pace and began to pick up. The stakes were very high for Punk, and numerous times the numbers game came into play. However, I felt the interference hurt the match some, and this was only meant to put over a storyline. These two would go on to continue feuding. 3.75/5

3-Strap Match
Shad Gaspard vs. JTG

For those who don't know. A strap match is when two wrestlers are tied to each other at the wrist, with a ten foot long strap. It can either be a chain, rope, or leather strap. In this case it's a leather strap.

I probably speak for a lot of wrestling fans, when I say Cryme Tyme was long overdue to be split up. The feud made sense to spill over onto PPV, but I have a serious question. Why put two superstars who were barely over, with barely any moves in a strap match? Also, from a personal point of view, I hate this specific type of strap match. The match utilizes the four corners rule: The first superstar who slaps all four turnbuckles in succession wins. Personally, I feel this should have been saved for free TV, and to top it off, it was the worst match on the card.

It started out decent with both guys dealing some decent damage with the strap. Sadly, this didn't turn into anything special. Shad did try to work his heel character, by putting the bad mouth on his former partner. But he wasn't drawing any heat from it, and the crowd was pretty much dead. Thankfully, it was mercifully short and had this bout been any longer. The fans would have turned on it, because it was getting to that point. 2/5

4-Extreme Rules Match for the World Heavyweight Championship
Randy Orton vs. Jack Swagger(C)

Rules: There aren't any, the match can only end by pinfall or submission.

After the poor run for Swagger to close out 2009, and being embarrassed on TV by the mid card comedy act Santino Marella. I was shocked to see him win the Money in the Bank, and even more surprised to see him cash it, and squash Jericho for the belt. I remember enjoying his new repackaged character, because he was one of the better pure wrestlers in the company.

This match had some good ring psychology, with Orton's extreme rules experience coming into play. There were some good displays of strength dominance from Swagger, good spots, and steady escalation of violation. The ending was kind of a shock, but it was worked out very well, and Orton did a great job in making Swagger. Match of the Night for me. 4/5

5-Street Fight
Sheamus vs. Triple H

Rules: Weapons are allowed and the match can only end in pinfall or submission.

I was looking forward to this bout because I enjoyed this feud, and Sheamus had become one of my favorite heels. Sheamus up to this day still needs more work on the mic, because he has the talent. However, I became a little worried about this, due to a segment which took place earlier, where things really didn't go Triple H's way. I thought this match was going to be a brutal squash.

This was a very good bout to me that surpassed their Mania encounter. Triple H was heavily selling his injuries he took earlier, and it effected his offense somewhat. There was a good story here with Triple H trying to fight through the pain, and at times he fought in vain. This was a very physical bout with some weapon use, and Triple H taking some whips across the barrier. The aftermath added to the match, by helping develop Sheamus into the heel who means business. 4/5

6-Extreme Makeover match for the Women's Championship
Michelle McCool(C) vs. Beth Phoenix

Shades of Chyna vs. Jeff Jarrett in the Good House Keeping Match for the IC title at No Mercy 99. This is a hardcore match using house appliances as weapons, such as brooms and even an ironing board.

In all honesty, as much as I like Beth, I really didn't feel her as a babyface at all. But at least it was a small change though, and I like her ring work. McCool was accompanied to the ring with Layla and Vicky, so it was only a matter of time before the numbers came into play. They put on a good amount of wrestling at first, but I feel the weapon spots were severely lacking, even for a women's match. Still, it didn't come off as meaningless filler and it was entertaining to me. 3/5

7-Steel Cage
Chris Jericho vs. Edge

Rules: The match can end by pinfall, submission, or escaping the cage.

WWE surprised everyone by not putting the belt on Edge so quickly, and quite frankly, I was very happy about it. This was a pretty good feud by this point, and a steel cage seemed to be the right choice. The problem with these matches is that one has to shut off their brain too much at times, and this bout was no exception. If I said it once, then I said it a billion times. The escape the cage stipulation needs to go away.

There were some brutal moments and good wrestling at times. However, the match began to drag a little, and even the crowd was growing a little frisky. Jericho was very vicious here, and once again going for Edge's ankle. Eventually, there would be a role reversal, and we would see the Rated R Superstar's mean streak. The ending was poetic justice, despite the ride being kind of bumpy. 4/5

8-Last Man Standing Match for WWE Championship
John Cena(C) vs. Batista

Rules: There are no count outs, no disqualifications, no pinfalls, and no submissions. The match is over when one superstar cannot stand on his feet by the count of ten.

I liked this feud up to this point, and I was looking forward to this match as well, because Cena is at his best when the rules are thrown out, and Batista is no slouch in this area either. I was seriously looking for a five star spectacle.

I really enjoyed the way things started out; with Cena wearing Batista down with simple tactics, and pouncing back on the attack. The level of violence slowly went up, and these two pretty much had a good outing. My biggest problem was with the ending, and I believe this was the worst ending to a Last Man Standing match I can remember seeing. The whole point of this match type is for one guy to pound the living daylights out of the other, until he cannot stand for the ten count. This ending wasn't creative to me, it was cheap and nothing more. Seriously, the PG rating is terrrible for wrestling. I really miss the Attitude Era. 3.5/5

The special feature happens to be Shawn Michaels farewell speech. Unfortunately, it's not the actual speech that was on RAW(which was awesome btw). It's a video package and nothing more. I don't know why they would do something like that. Other than the possibility of saving it for another RAW 3 disk DVD set. The problem is, by the time it comes around, I doubt many people will give a damn about it.

Overall, this is a solid event with more than enough watchable matches. I think it's worth a rental at least, but a purchase wouldn't be bad.

Pros:
-Solid Matches for the most part

Cons:
-Strap match was weak filler, weak ending to main event
