How can a ppv event consisting of only title matches feel like a regular event? No matter how hard I try. I still can't wrap it around my head and believe it for any reason. Night of Champions which was once called WWE Vengeance, is WWE's all championship on the line ppv. Ever since the switch took place at Vengeance 07. The event has been anything but spectacular, with this event not living up to any of the hype at all. The matches are watchable for the most part, with only one huge dud. But this is not something that I would consider to be a must see, unless you're a rabid Jeff Hardy fan.

1)Unified Tag Team Championship Match
Chris Jericho & The Big Show(C) vs. Cody Rhodes & Ted Dibiase

This was proof at the time that WWE really didn't care about their tag division. Jericho came into this bout without a partner due to Edge's real injury, and he had been ripping on Edge since the injury occurred. Therefore, it was obvious he was still coming into this event in full heel mode. This was indeed a problem. I can't remember the last time, if ever, the crowd was into a heel vs. heel match. And the creative teams picking Big Show of all talents was definitely a mysterious booking decision. The last time he had a hot streak was during his feud with Undertaker in 2008. The crowd was not into this match in the beginning at all.

In all honesty though, this was one of Big Shows best matches last year and he really needed it. Especially after coming off that pathetic rivalry with Cena. The action was very good with the smaller guys keeping the bout well paced, with some good offensive mat based wrestling. Cody and Dibiase were coming around very well here. However, this match was mainly meant to put over how dangerous of a combo Jericho and Show could be, with the 485 lb. Show locking on the camel clutch for the very fast and believable submission. 3.25/5

2)ECW Championship Match
Tommy Dreamer(C) vs. Christian

I'm still in shock when I think of Dreamer coming in as champion. Not because he always made it very clear that he never wanted the belt. Instead, because along with the original ECW stars(with him being the last), Dreamer was nothing more than another job out guy, who was going through one burial after the other.

This was another solid bout with Christian pulling out a good performance from Dreamer. This was a good match overall, with some clever and intelligent wrestling on the part of Christian, who I don't believe is being well used still. As if he ever was anyway. The action was good, well paced, and it finished at the right time with the ending working out very well. 3.25/5

3)Six Pack Challenge for the United States Championship
Kofi Kingston(C) vs. Miz vs. Primo vs. Carlito vs. Jack Swagger vs. MVP

This is a six man one fall bout that can only end by pin fall or submission.

I never ever cared for these type of matches unless they're elimination. Simply because I don't think I'm getting my cash worth with these one fall matches. Fortunately, this bout was action packed and very well played from beginning to end, with everyone getting their moment to shine. This was an entertaining spot fest that pushed a couple of story lines. Such as the backstabbing angle between Primo and Carlito. Plus one altercation that set up a future match at Summerlsam. Fun for what it was worth, and one of the best on the event. 3.5/5

4)Women's Championship Match
Michelle McCool(C) vs. Melina

Much better than their encounter at The Bash. This rivalry wasn't great, but at least these two had been consistent delivering watchable matches. They tried their best and they delivered a physical match. They even took some risk outside the ring that was rarely seen in a WWE Women's Match. But they weren't anywhere close to TNA's(Total Non Stop Action) Women's Division, and they still aren't now. 3/5

5)Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship
Randy Orton(C) vs. John Cena vs. Triple H

Even though I didn't look forward to this match, I did enjoy the build up. Orton pointed out that he did in fact retain his title against these two, in the exact same match a year ago at Wrestlemania 24. The story here was could Orton pull it off twice.

This match had its good moments with the typical "boo" & "yay" chants, which were directed at Cena and whoever was slugging it out with him. They all pulled out their usual trademark moves and the match appeared to be over a couple of times. I have to mention that Orton gets very deep into his "Viper" character. His facial expressions are demented. I'll give credit to WWE for not being very predictable here. Despite not caring for the events that lead to the end, it was still a good decision to continue a new feud. Match of the night for me 3.75/5

6)Divas Championship Match
Maryse(C) vs. Mickie James

This bout took the crowd right out of the event. These two didn't click at all, and Mickie James was clearly frustrated. Mickie is among the best of the divas and she can actually go. The ending was way too tacked on with no real build up. This match isn't even worth seeing, but in all fairness, I'm sure it had something to do with Maryse already being hurt. 1.25/5

Here an interview takes place with Rhodes and Dibiase. Nothing worth hearing at all, but there is something to see. Take a good look at that skillet sized hand print on Rhodes chest delivered by the Big Show. That bruise is HUGE and I'm sure it hurt like hell.

7)Intercontinental Championship Match
Rey Mysterio(C) vs. Dolph Ziggler

I always said that Dolph had potential, and since Maria was booked as his valet. Someone else must have seen some potential as well. But, I didn't believe anyone was buying him as a threat to Rey. Now compared to the series of matches Rey had with Jericho over the past few months before this. This match is nowhere near on the same level. But on its own, it's actually a good match.

Rey and Dolph's styles didn't really clash, because Dolph implemented his strategy to try and keep him grounded. You will see some good believable offense from both sides. It's a shame the crowd wasn't really into it, and this was because of the poor match before it. But, I think this match served a purpose in putting Dolph over as a contender. 3.5/5

8)World Heavyweight Championship Match
CM Punk(C) vs. Jeff Hardy

I did not care for this feud at all, but this encounter far surpasses their previous match at The Bash. However, this one is above average at best. This match was meant to put over Punk's heel turn that had gained some momentum. He used basic heel tactics once again, like trying to win by Count Out, and pretty much wrestling with a cocky attitude. But, all this match really did for him was put him over as a chump and joke of a champion. Except for the closing moments, I really didn't find too much to be great about this match. But at least on the brighter side, they would go on to deliver a very solid match later. 3.5/5

Night of Champions 2009 was another addition to WWE's lackluster ppv list of that year, and this ppv more than likely can only be very valuable to Jeff Hardy fans. I only recommend it to them really.

Pros:
-A watchable event...

Cons:
-. .. but not a single match I would consider classic
