2009 for WWE seems so reminiscent of 2007. Exactly like the aforementioned year, WWE had a stale middle for the most part. Then later on, they began to gain some momentum to close out the year. Their last two events Survivor Series and TLC were pretty strong, with the formerbeing their best event since Backlash 09. There really wasn't a bad match on here, and the younger talent came out looking a lot better than they went in.

For those who don't know. Survivor Series(SS) is an event where 5 on 5 elimination tag team matches occur. When a superstar loses in anyway, they must leave the match and their partners will continue. This match will go on until one team is completely eliminated, and the surviving team will be named the winners.

1)Traditional SS 5 on 5 Elimination Match
Team Miz:
The Miz, Sheamus, Jack Swagger, Drew McIntyre, and Dolph Ziggler vs. Team Morrison: John Morrison, Shelton Benjamin, Matt Hardy, Finlay, & Evan Bourne

This was a very solid opener that also had a few hot rivalries coming in, with the feud between Miz and Morrison being the most notable. Miz already proved at Bragging Rights 09 that he was the better wrestler. Now he seeks to prove that he can also be the better team captain.

There were some good match ups here. Such as the speedster Evan Bourne attempting to evade the bigger and stronger Jack Swagger. The match had some real nice spots, and very good wrestling almost throughout.

Some of the finishes were very good, and none of them came off cheap, to include, eliminations were well timed. The teams got a good amount of time to put on a nice match. I'll also point out that the younger talent were put over heavily here. At times, I was upset about some of the eliminations, and felt the wrong stars were taken out. But I still enjoyed this match a lot. 3.75/5

2) Rey Mysterio vs. Batista

The outcome was incredibly predictable, because no one thought Rey was taking down Batista. The match had some entertaining moments with Rey using his speed to take it to him. In the end, Batista would eventually dominate and destroy Rey. The match did its job convincingly, by putting Batista over as Smackdown's monster heel. The aftermath also added to the match, with the crowd heavily behind Batista as he mercilessly beat Rey even more. 3.5/5

3)Traditional SS 5 on 5 Elimination Match
Team Orton:
Randy Orton, CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, Ted Dibiase, & William Regal vs. Team Kingston: Kofi Kingston, Mark Henry, MVP, R-Truth, & Christian

Match of the night for me. This match had some very good build up, and some good rivalries coming into it, with Kofi and Orton carrying the most heat. This bout was also very well booked, with two of the least over, and least interesting superstars quickly eliminated. Leaving the workers who can put on a good show.

This bout was very good with nice match ups, and without a single stale moment to me. Christian brought his A game to this one, and he delivered some good match ups with Dibiase and Rhodes. Kofi and Punk also mixed up well, and put on a clinic here. These two seriously need a feud to go on. The match was simply very good all around with an unpredictable and very good ending.

Although a short interaction, Randy Orton and Christian mixed it up. They delivered a small taste of what their capable of should they ever engage in a feud. It would be cool for it to happen, but I won't get my hopes up. 4.25/5

4)Triple Threat for the World Heavyweight Championship
Undertaker(C) vs. Chris Jericho vs. Big Show

I was really looking forward to this one. Especially after "Jerishow" mildly self-destructed in a match leading up to this one. Eventually, they were able to somewhat co-exist to team up on the Deadman.

The action was good and consisted of Taker fighting them both off. There were no boring moments I could think of, and each man worked well to his strengths. I was also glad to see that creative was still pushing Big Shows boxing gimmick. It came into play here, which set up a good finish. 3.75/5

5)Divas Traditional 5 on 5 Elimination Match
Team McCool: Michelle McCool, Layla, Alicia Fox, Beth Phoenix, & Jillian vs. Team Mickie: Mickie James, Gail Kim, Melina, Eve, & Kelly Kelly

The perfect crowd killer before the main event, because the crowd wasn't in to this at all. This is the only match on the card that I can say qualifies as filler. There were a couple of botched spots, and one of the best workers made an early exit. There were too many Divas who were either too green, or just untalented altogether. The match got better towards the end, and the last few divas put on a decent show. Nothing special but watchable. 3/5

6)Triple Threat for WWE Championship
John Cena(C) vs. Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels

This match started out with a bang, with Michaels immediately shifting into "Showstopper" mode. The beginning was awesome with Michaels and Cena mixing it up well. There was very good action with nice spots I won't spoil, and some entertaining one on one exchanges; such as Michaels and Triple H exchanging spots. But, this was part of the problem. There weren't enough multi-man spots until the end, and I felt they over sold certain moves for far too long. Still, very good match with a good ending to cap it off. 4/5

I really liked this event, because the younger talent were pushed very well. And so far, a few of them have went on to do some very good to great things. In closing, this was among WWE's strongest events, and it happens to be my 3rd favorite of that year. This is an event I definitely recommend checking out. The elimination matches are among the best in recent memory. Off the top of my head, I think they're better than the last three years worth. This also concludes my run on WWE's 2009 events.

Pros:
-Good matches all around

Cons:
-Divas match is watchable at best, and some could have been better

Vince wants to pull the plug on a lot of things I've heard. It may actually help quality in the long run....

Yeah, but Survivor Series is one of those events that just shouldn't be canned. It's when you get to see the top faces and heels join forces and just go at it. There's always potential there for great entertainment. They just fuck it up here and there.
