WWF
ROYAL RUMBLE 2002

This was a fun Rumble event right here as it was a fun time during the company. You would see the return of some superstars at this event for the Rumble including the big return of Triple H. also this was during the time when Vince was partners with Ric Flair which lead to so many great moments on Raw and Smackdown. You would see four title fights at this event plus a street fight between business partners and of course the Royal Rumble itself.

1.[TAG TITLES]TAZZ & SPIKE DUDLEY VS THE DUDLEY BOYZ-really fun opening match in my opinion. I have read other reviews that say that this match was too short and that was the problem. Now I agree that the match was short but I don't think that it disappointed in any way. Big brothers really wanted to take it to Spike here over powering him at every turn. But Spike was resilient and Tazz as always was great with his suplexes. There is a lot of great action here and D Von tapping to the Tazzmission.

2.[I-C TITLE]EDGE VS WILLIAM REGAL-we follow the tag match with a bout for the I-C title and like the first it was a good one. This one was more of a slower paced match but that was a good change in momentum. Some people don't like matches like that but some of my favorites have been like this. I like how the ref made sure [at least for a while] that Regal did not have his brass knucks. With that Edge went straight at him but Regal would work to keep the match grounded. In the end it was the returning brass knuckles that would lead Regal to victory.

3.[WOMEN'S TITLE]TRISH STRATUS VS JAZZ-the next match and next title bout of the night would see the women go at it. This was at the time the typical women's match looking back now it was better than I thought at the time. Of course this match was really all about putting Jazz over without giving her the title. She dominates for most of the match only to lose to a Stratusfaction.

4.[STREET FIGHT]RIC FLAIR VS VINCE MCMAHON-fun street fight here between these two that is very bloody. They brawl over the place and the taking turns taking pictures moments were great and funny. But despite Flair rightfully winning by making Vince tap to the figure four I didn't like how Vinnie mostly dominated the match. Flair is one of the greatest of all time and Vince can dominate him. The match doesn't suffer for it because Flair makes any one look good but still. Also this is the only non title match of the night.

5.[WWF TITLE]CHRIS JERICHO VS THE ROCK-excellent match and best of the night in my opinion that is not the Rumble. The match that these two put on is great with Jericho trying everything he can to stay the undisputed champ. All the heel tactics you can think of happen here and Rock is in great form as well. Of course we all remember the rock bottom onto the announcers table which is just one great moment. I personally liked the ending here as it kept the belt on Jericho and still established him as a great heel. Y2J keeps the belt after a great back and forth match.

6.[THE ROYAL RUMBLE]-now this was one of my favorite Rumbles of all time as it has everything a Rumble should. You have drama, action, and comedy all inside the ring. Also I like that there were people who returned here like Goldust, Val Venis, and The Godfather but it was Mr. Perfect that was so great to see back in action. Curt Henning [R.I.P.] like he always did in these matches shined and went all the way to the end. Had Kurt Angle not been in there with him I would have been all for him winning it. In fact when we were watching this on PPV that night they were the two I was rooting for. My favorite moment however was when Maven got the surprise elimination of the Undertaker. That was truly a great Rumble moment especially after Taker had cleaned house earlier in the match. Of course it would be the returning Triple H that would go on to win it. I remember being so mad that Kurt did not win this, he came ever so close and was the last eliminated so that is something I guess.

Over all I would say this was one of the most fun Rumbles that I have watched. Every time I watch this event or one from this time period I think of Maryland as I lived there at the time. The DVD comes with interviews with the returning superstars, promos, Tazz & Spike reviewing their match, and of course Triple H's return on Raw. This was a really fun event like I said and I would recommend getting it if you can find it cheap enough.
