I lose the internet for four days, and come back to discover that Rio Ferdinand and Didier Drogba are out, and Andrea Pirlo (one of my favorite players) is probably out. Ugh.
EDIT: I've updated my Power Rankings accordingly. Ivory Coast and England both drop a lot, Italy drops a bit, Argentina, France, and Portugal all rise.
My top three sides are now on the bottom half of the draw. The top half of the draw was looking chaotic enough to start, now it may be a disaster.
Now reports are saying that Drogba might be back. Which is cool, but only if he's anything like the player he is for Chelsea. We have seen occasional shells of players try to compete and make things worse in the past.
If you're like Ryan and dislike Guiseppe Rossi, then you are in for a treat of epic proportions: Dude got left out of Italy's final squad: http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_by_ives/2...iuseppe-rossi.html#more Also, read the comments on the story for the continuation of the biggest debate in Lunch's FIFA World Cup 2010 community history... ;)
I'm not gonna lie.. I kind of feel bad for him now. It's crazy to think he would be in South Africa if he played for the US. It'll now be interesting to see who gets further, Italy or the US.
England and Argentina demolished both of our neighboring countries today (Mexico and Canada respectively) Although friendlies usually mean little (as do qualifiers) the Arg strike force was out in full today as Tevez, Aguero, Higuain & Maxi Rodriguez (scorer of the best goal in 2006 WC) were in form. England...well..I don't care much for England. Mexico has reason to worry though, they pretty much fielded a full squad. Portugal couldn't manage to score or be scored on by Cape Verde either.
Interesting article on the lack of different World Cup winners in SI. I hadn't seen the Socceronomics thing on population+per capita income, but it makes a lot of sense.
My hunch is no new winner this time - Spain has the talent, but also the pressure. If anyone, possibly Holland. It'll probably be a chaotic, non-European tourney (like 2002) for a breakout winner.
