If you're born in America, but your parents weren't, you get to choose who you play for! (Lucky!!!!)

Ryan, although I think your passion for the U.S. squad is on point, this is an issue that is rampant in International Soccer and has been for a longer than you or I have been alive.

Players are born in one country and play in another all the time. Eusébio, the greatest player to ever grace a Portugal shirt, was born in Mozambique. Patrick Vieira, France's enforcer, was born in Senegal. Zidane's parents where both from Algeria. Deco was born in Brazil but played for Portugal. And the list goes on...

Whatever the reason (we can speculate all day) Rossi felt compelled to play for Italy and as much as it irks you, singling him out just because he's an American and your an American doesn't make for much of an argument.

As more and more people are dispersed in different countries than their parent's homeland, more and more soccer players will sport the shirts of whichever country they please (between the country of their ancestry and where they live).

If it's dual-citizenship you're talking about, that's another debate. But whether Giuseppe Rossi chooses to lace up for Uncle Sam or take his chances at earning a place on the second most successful international team of all time, isn't a choice to knock either way. If anything it's a challenge to commend.

I hope he scores a hat trick per game. As much as you don't think it would help U.S. soccer the Italians are fully aware of his New Jersey roots.

The Americans are particularly adept at seeking out potential dual citizenship players. Earnie Stewart and Thomas Dooley, or David Regis for it not quite working so well. Freddy Adu as well. The "we" were on the losing side of this one is bad luck, but so be it.

If you're born in America, you play for America!
Preview   Let me start this off by telling you that Giuseppe Rossi deserves a -5 but I gave him 1 point for loving soccer so he gets a -4 in my book.       Story   For those of you who don't know this story, Giuseppe Rossi, a profession soccer player who excelled at a young age, was picked up by Manchester United at the age of 17, and currently scores a goal in every 3 games he plays was born in Northern New Jersey.
